Swiss Precision Subsystems for Defence Primes
Based in Switzerland, MPS Microsystems develops and manufactures customer-specific actuation, precision-positioning and optomechanical subsystems for defence programmes. We specialise in applications where space and mass are constrained, motion performance is demanding and reliable operation is required throughout the specified service life.
MPS integrates mechanics, motors, transmissions, sensing, electronics and controls into tested subsystems with defined interfaces. By taking responsibility for the agreed scope, we reduce the integration work and supplier coordination left to your team and carry the subsystem through development, industrialisation and repeatable series production.

Actuation for Air Defence & Precision Effectors
We develop compact fin actuators and complete control-actuation subsystems for missiles and interceptors. Mechanics, motors, electronics and controls are designed to work together, delivering the response and precision your system requires within the available space and weight budget.

Precision Positioning for Directed Energy & Laser Systems
We develop subsystems that precisely position fibres and optical components within directed-energy and laser systems. Drawing on our experience in high-density fibre positioning, we adapt the mechanisms, electronics and controls to your optical layout and integration requirements.

Optomechanical Subsystems for ISR & Imaging
Our compact optomechanical subsystems enable fast and precise focus, zoom and alignment in surveillance and imaging equipment. We tailor each system to your requirements for travel, speed, positioning accuracy, coaxiality and stability, delivering a backlash-free and long-lasting solution.
We combine miniature mechanics, motors and controls to achieve the required motion within your size, weight and power limits. Bearings, transmissions, sensing and control are considered together to balance force or torque, response and positioning accuracy.
Our engineering addresses backlash, friction and repeatability alongside the subsystem’s operating conditions and required service life. These requirements guide the choice of components and the way they are integrated, with performance verified against the criteria defined for your project.
One of our flagship solutions, our miniature fin actuator, combines a mass below 100 g with angular backlash below 0.1° rms at the fin axis.
MPS brings mechanics, motors, transmissions, sensing, electronics and controls together around the function your application requires. We consider how these elements interact, how the subsystem connects to your equipment, and how design choices affect performance, manufacturability and service life.
The result is a working unit with clearly defined mechanical, electrical and control interfaces to your wider system. Assembly and testing follow the requirements agreed for MPS’s scope, reducing the integration work left to your engineering team.

Long-running projectsWe take full responsibility for the subsystem scope entrusted to us. A dedicated project manager coordinates development, industrialisation, quality, purchasing and manufacturing, and manages any specialist partners involved. Weekly reviews give your team visibility of technical decisions, costs and milestones throughout the project.
We can start from a functional need, a partial design or an existing design. Depending on your requirements, MPS can lead development, work alongside your engineers or take your design through industrialisation and series production. Responsibilities and IP arrangements are agreed separately for each project.
Our process engineers turn subsystem designs into documented manufacturing and assembly methods, developing dedicated equipment where the product requires it. Quality engineers define inspection plans and measurement tools, while our validation team qualifies production equipment and processes.
We monitor production through statistical process control and carry out the inspections and functional tests specified for the project. Capacity, ramp-up and delivery schedules are planned with your team to support repeatable series production.
Across its three Swiss sites, MPS combines in-house precision machining, assembly and testing with qualified specialist suppliers for additional processes and components. MPS coordinates these suppliers within the same programme structure as its own production and flows down the relevant quality, traceability and delivery requirements.
Supplier qualification, supply commitments and continuity measures are defined for each programme. MPS also supports products and customer projects that have remained in production for more than 20 years, bringing practical experience of long production lifecycles.
